FEMININE NOUN 1. (discussion) a, meeting
La Junta at our core is a social platform building a community for social exchange and resources. We amplify and connect Latina/x women creatives, entrepreneurs and organizers. Our event series and initiatives are designed to share resources across different disciplines and create communities of support within the Latina community.
What does this mean? We believe sharing knowledge is our key to success. The more we know the more you know. We are building a community of trailblazing Latina’s supporting one another and sharing knowledge through events, monthly meet-ups, community groupings.
We are stronger, together.
La Junta aims to build a bridge between Latina’s through connection, networking events and collaboration. We do this by uplifting trailblazing Latina’s through promotion, monthly meetups and empowering already established and existing creatives, entrepreneurs, and organizers within our communities.
We believe that we are out own assets.
WHY? BECAUSE THERE IS POWER IN OUR SHARED EXPERIENCES.
Latina’s face discrimination and have experience being typecast for particular roles at work and career
Many of the Latina respondents also expressed feeling trapped between unreasonably rigid gender roles in Latino culture and stereotypes and limitations from mainstream society
1 in 5 Latina’s have not graduated from high school by 29 and don't have access to financially and socially supportive professional and entrepreneurial networks that can lead to funding and career gains
Latina’s feel authentically underrepresented in stories of success within their industries
We encounter workplace environments and systems that do not value equal opportunity initiatives, representation and anti-discrimination
IT'S TIME TO PUT OUR MONEY, TIME AND COMMUNITY WHERE OUR MOUTH IS.
We create inter sectional, interdisciplinary programs and initiatives that inspire, connect and create opportunity and community. La Junta creates a platform for social exchange through interdisciplinary events that promote collaboration, community, and connection. Together, we make space to catalyze multi-industry coalitions, share our crafts, seek help and provide each other with practical and emotional resources.
