We met Inez Candelario 1/6 members of Moon Rise at our second Junta Brunch last year & fell over heels with their mission on initiatives focus on engaging community through fundraisers and events supporting causes and with this has seen them take of Chicago through amazing events.
We were introduced to Grace López 1/6 members a few months later right before their Femme Film Festival at Low Res Studio and knew we had to give them a shout out as these 6 badass ladies take over Chicago together.
Who is Moonrise?
Moon Rise is a collective of women, for everyone. We advocate for causes that matter to us, to our community, and to our world. We #partywithapurpose. We're working towards becoming a staple for Chicago and beyond, connecting people, starting stimulating conversations in open & safe spaces, throwing parties in the name of worthy causes, perpetuating creativity, and leading community activism.
Where did they begin?
Moon Rise has our own history and we were all friends first, through personal connections. We started with a collaborative event back in 2016 that became the catalyst to us starting Moon Rise as a collective, and a movement. We were inspired by Chance the Rapper x Social Works' initiative to raise funds for The Empowerment Plan, and our founder Adrienne Thomas rallied the troops to plan an event to help them reach their goal. It was the day after David Bowie died, spirits were out of sorts, there was a blizzard blanketing the city, but the energy generated out of the process and people showing up for the cause lit a fire into us all. In celebrating Chicago's generosity and partying for a purpose... Moon Rise was born.
What inspires them?
WOMANHOOD, PHILANTHROPY, CURATION, ART, COMMUNITY, INCLUSIVITY, CELEBRATION, ADVOCACY, CONNECTION, LUNAR ENERGY.
How have they evolved?
Moon Rise has continued to evolve and grow since its conception. We're learning so much with each event we host, and gaining more experience and expertise through every collaboration. We've consistently gained traction and attention with our events, and look forward to all the future brings.
How do they do what they do?
Inspiration is where our process begins. We value connections, relationships and experiences over hard process. We're deeply affected and motivated by all of the individuals and organizations who are working to make our city a better place and forever feel compelled to contribute. One good deed inspires another.
